Junior Sticks" is a developmental all inclusive Junior Golfer Program. Lou uses many methods of developing juniors to reach peak performance. His comprehensive methods includes detailed aspects of skill development (swing), mental game development, physical workouts, goal setting, playing lessons, scheduling and training for competition. Below is description of "Junior Sticks" a year round program for competitive juniors. Junior Sticks is a year-round junior golfer periodization development program. Periodization is an all inclusive method of preparing individuals to reach peak performance. This comprehensive method includes detailed aspects of skill development (swing), mental game development, physical workouts, goal setting, playing lessons, scheduling and training for competition. Junior Sticks is a detailed and personally demanding program for juniors who love and are personally committed to their golf. Periodization Schedule Below is a brief description of Junior Sticks yearly schedule, the program has flexibility for year-round tournament players. Off Season- (October 15 - December 1) A break from Golf, time to rest the body and catch up on other important aspects of life. Begin organizing activities to be carried out in pre-season. Catch Up on studies, projects or appointments Budget more time for family, friends, self, relationships Organize Outcome Goals and plan of action for next year Organize Conditioning Goals and plan of action for next season(s) Organize Wellness/Nutritional Goals and plan of action for next year Organize Mental Skills Goals and plan of action for next season(s) Organize Balance Goals and plan of action for next year Organize Physical Skills Goals and plan of action for next year Organize Club fitting for next year 2.Pre-Season- (December 1 - April 1) Pre-Season is dedicated for strength building and skill development, Pre-Season is when all major swing changes take place. Gradually increase time allocated for golf Continue catching up with studies, projects and appointments Implement plan for conditioning goals Implement plan for Wellness/Nutritional Goals Implement plan for Mental Skills Goals (Practice mental routine and skills, re-read The Eight Traits of Champion Golfers, re-read GolfPsych Personality Report) Implement plan for Balance Goals and Self-Improvement Implement plan for Physical Skills Goals (start indoor lessons and or practice routines for putting, short game, full swing and shot routines) Get and implement Club Fitting and Ball recommendations Organize a Tournament Schedule Organize Practice Schedule Secure and begin completing tournament entry forms 3.Competitive Season- (April 1 - October 15) Competitive season is dedicated to scoring, the main focus is on short game, playing lessons and competitive mental game development. Increase time allocated for golf to competition levels Budget time needed for studies, projects and appointments Follow plan for Conditioning Goals, taper down workouts Follow plan for Wellness/Nutritional Goals Follow plan for using Mental Skills Goals (set and monitor mental skills with journaling, work on skills) Prepare game and course playing plan for each event Keep desired stats (mental, physical, tournament. etc.) Follow plan for Balance Goals and Self Improvement Follow plan for Physical Skills. (Set goals for all lessons and practice using post round ratings or your choice of journaling) Commit to Clubs and Ball, changing only when necessary Maintain Equipment by Checking Lie, Loft and Changing Handles as necessary Follow Tournament Schedule, Adjusting as Needed Follow Practice Schedule, Adjusting as Needed Submit Tournament Entry Forms as Needed 4.Post-Season - (October 15 - December 1) Post-Season is a time for rest and reflection of the past year. Reduce Time for golf to Post Season Levels Increase Time for Studies, Projects, Appointments Assess Conditioning Goals for the Year, Start or Continue Rehabilitation Plan if Needed Assess Wellness/Nutritional Goals for Year Assess Mental Skills Goals for Year. (Review post round ratings and journals) Assess Effectiveness of Course Management Strategies Assess Stats (mental, physical, tournament, etc.) Assess Plan for Physical Skills.
